The Best of Chilterns Wildlife

£9.95

A guide to the most colourful and fascinating species that make the Chiltern Hills special. With sections on The Chilterns, woodlands, rivers, ponds & lakes, fields & hedgerows, chalk grassland, parks & gardens, photographic advice

We have defined wildlife as all flora & fauna, including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, fish, plants, lichen, fungi, slugs and snails.

A book inspired by Matt Kirby’s ‘Chesham Wildlife’ facebook page, where local people have posted their nature photographs taken in the Chilterns. Over the years this has provided an overview of the most regularly sighted species, including some prized rarities. As such it is not intended to be an encyclopedia or comprehensive guide. The digital age has enabled practically everyone to participate and to share their images, with many reaching semi-professional standards.

Several conservation bodies, including BBOWT, the Chiltern Society, the Woodland Trust and the National Trust, manage nature reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and we guide readers to these in relation to different species of wildlife.

One particular aim of the book is to increase awareness and understanding of our wildlife, to help differentiate between various species, deepen our respect for nature and the countryside, and highlight human impact on the environment. We sincerely hope that you find this a useful resource whilst enjoying the Chilterns countryside.
