Book publisher based in Chesham, Bucks

Peter Hawkes established Hawkes Design and Publishing in 1990. Our publishing office has been based in the historic Laceys Yard for over 10 years, just off the High Street. In early 2022 we established The Good Earth Gallery on the premises, providing a creative hub here in the centre of Chesham.

We’ve published over 20 books under the Hawkes Design and Publishing imprint, as well as dozens for self-published authors.

Our work has been focused on local history and special interest topics, both for the Chilterns area and overseas connections. We offer a self-publishing service to assist authors in publishing their manuscripts, from getting ISBN numbers to graphic design, illustration and proof reading.

With a background in typography and graphic design for print, we pride ourselves on attention to detail and customer service. We love working with the local community and with authors, photographers and other designers.

Alongside this we’ve become a resource for researchers of Chesham's heritage. In our archive is a collection of over 10,000 photographs and postcards. These are ever popular and are steadily being published in books for you to enjoy.
